As we near the end of 2018, we have some important business and industry updates to share with you:
Updated December 1, 2018
Like many in the furniture industry, we are making plans and bracing ourselves for the possibility of increased tariffs on Chinese imports in 2019. On December 1, President Trump announced a 90-day hold on plans to raise tariffs from 10% to 25% in order to reach a suitable agreement with China.
As it is unclear exactly when the US and Chinese administrations will reach a final agreement, please be advised that quotes requested during the 90-day hold could be subject to increase once a decision is made. When the decision has been finalized, we will notify you accordingly. Thank you for your patience on this matter.
The voters of Collier County voted to raise the sales tax rate to 7 percent. The new tax goes into effect January 1, 2019.
Effective November 5, 2018, all Naples customers that do not have a Florida Resale Certificate and therefore are classified as taxable will be quoted at the new (7 percent) tax rate. If the sale is INVOICED before 1/1/19 we will charge the current tax (6 percent). If the sale is invoiced after 1/1/19 we will charge 7 percent.
North Carolina Freight Rate Increase
Beginning December 1, 2018, Brooks-Dehart Furniture Express is raising their freight rate by 3.5 percent. Last year they had a similar increase that we were able to absorb.
However, the recent increase has forced us to raise our freight rates, too. Effective immediately, North Carolina shipping rates will increase to 9.5 percent (a 2 percent increase). We are going to absorb the additional 1.5 percent as well as continue the freight minimum at $50.00 per item.
As always, we sincerely appreciate your business. If you have any questions about the items above, please reach out to Emilio Sadez directly at email@example.com.
